Dr Rohan Fernando re appointed as the president of the Palm Oil Industry Association at the AGM

news

Speaking at the AGM he noted that, Ironically Sri Lanka is the only country in the world to ban Oil Palm. Not a very healthy reputation, especially when our nearest neighbour India is expanding Oil Palm cultivation exponentially. Unfortunately, no one has taken account of the effects of the ban and its cost to the Country’s economy, by importing edible oil to meet the edible oil requirements in the domestic market. There are many published papers and articles on this subject, which highlight its cost to the economy.

We are hopeful that the Sri Lankan authorities will understand the advantages of expanding Oil Palm cultivation and take action to lift the ban.

His Excellency BADLI HISHAM ADAM the Malaysian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Her Excellency DEWI GUSTINA TOBING the Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka grace the occasion with their presence
